FAQs

The pin is a symbol given by police to citizens, citizens to police, and between citizens themselves to celebrate and acknowledge positive action in our communities.

Wear, give, and exchange pins to show your solidarity and support for a system of justice that sees people in their totality; for, peace is the presence of good actions, and not merely the absence of bad ones.

Acknowledging the good people each day bring to each other supports and cultivates peace and trust through a more complete demonstration of justice.

The Peace Pin is available for everyone to purchase and give because this further democratizes the process of justice, allowing everyone to acknowledge the good acts we see each other bring to life everyday.

First of all, thank you so much for being here! You are sincerely appreciated and most welcome.

Please reach out to Sofia; she will coordinate a shipment of pins to your police department: UnboundedLaw@gmail.com

The short answer is peace.

Throughout history, justice has been about seeking restitution or punishment for misfortune and harm. Until now. Justice to this project is about seeing the light in people, not just the dark.

This initiative seeks to support and cultivate positive relationships between police and citizens, and between citizens themselves, by offering avenues to be good to each other, and by directing energies towards this end; what is essential to the role of peacekeeper is that he/she/they promote, and celebrate, peace. In order to celebrate and cultivate peace, this project posits meritorious action, not just reprehensible action, should be acknowledged.

Sofia found about $80 dollars in the gutter on College Avenue of Berkeley, CA, walking to a class circa 2012. Simple. But it prompted a string of events over the course of years leading her back to the event's greater truth.

Without giving a thought to how much she needed the money, she began handing bills large and small to very confused and elated strangers walking by. In reaction, she started a 501(c)(3) to leave money on the sidewalk, then pursed a MA developing Unbounded Law and its application Merit Ticketing, ran for office in order to bring it to life, finally redesigning it as the Peace Pin project, removing the money from the act of giving.

Acknowledging others is all that matters in the end. Money only obscures a greater truth about humanity. True wealth is what you share.

The law that seeks to prevent and punish negative action is what Sofia calls “Bounded Law”; it restricts a person’s harmful actions within a society with threat and implementation of negative consequence(s), such as jail, fines, and in some cases the death penalty.

BOUNDED LAW:

Prohibits or restricts action; it prevents citizens from doing bad deeds.

  1. Law is a weapon to discourage citizens from committing harmful deeds by threat and implementation of punishment
  2. Demarcates right and wrong
  3. Reaction
  4. Peace is the absence of harmful action

Sofia posits an alternative type of law be studied and cultivated entitled, "Unbounded Law", which seeks to promote and recognize good action within a community—action which benefits either an individual or the community as a whole.

UNBOUNDED LAW:

Encourages action; it helps citizens aspire to good deeds.

  1. Law is an instrument of peace, not retribution
  2. Law shall cultivate morality, not embody morality itself
  3. Action
  4. Peace is the presence of good action
